Voting is now open to approve a major update to the ILCA Class Rules.
ILCA is seeking approval of a major update to the ILCA Class Rules to align them with World Sailing’s Standard Class Rules (SCR) format. Given the number of changes required, the vote covers the updated document in its entirety rather than on a change-by-change basis. A detailed schedule of changes can be found here.
The ILCA World Council and Technical and Measurement Committee (TMC) recommend that members vote “Yes” to ensure our class remains in compliance with World Sailing requirements.
This move to the SCR format is not discretionary. World Sailing now requires all Olympic classes to adopt the SCR framework as part of a broader effort to align class rules with the Racing Rules of Sailing and Equipment Rules of Sailing in structure, terminology, and governance. ILCA is the last of the Olympic classes to complete this transition, and adoption is a condition of continued compliance with World Sailing's class recognition requirements.
The changes between the current Class Rules and the new SCR version fall into two categories. The majority are clerical in nature — restructuring, renumbering, and reformatting to conform to the SCR template — with no change to the substance or intent of the existing rules. A smaller number of changes have been made to address rules that were either legacy provisions carried forward without revision or rules whose interpretation was unclear. These changes have been reviewed by the TMC and reflect the class's considered position to maintain current practices.
ILCA recommends that members approve this submission by voting “Yes.” The SCR format is a mandatory requirement under World Sailing's framework for Olympic classes, and the non-clerical changes are limited and purposeful — correcting ambiguities and resolving legacy provisions that no longer served the class well. Rejection would leave the ILCA in a non-conforming position with World Sailing and would not address the underlying issues identified in the current text. The full schedule of rules added and removed, with cross-references between old and new numbering, is set out in the table found here.
Voting closes 24 July 2026 and is restricted to current class members. Membership will be verified with your home ILCA District. If you need to join ILCA, please contact your home District.
