Kiel-Schilksee, Germany – Fresh to strong southwesterly winds and stormy squalls delivered a dramatic shakeup on day three of the 2025 ILCA 6 Men’s World Championship, held as part of the prestigious Kieler Woche. After two days of light wind sailing, Monday (June 23) brought a fierce contrast—challenging competitors with heavy weather that demanded both skill and stamina.

With two flawless wins in the blue fleet, Italy’s Alessandro Cirinei delivered a commanding performance in the blue qualification group, securing two first-place finishes to claim the coveted yellow leader’s jersey. “It was really tough out there, but I handled it well,” Cirinei commented, after overtaking Ukraine’s Semen Khashchyna, who dropped to third overall.

Hungary’s Benedek Héder maintained his consistency to stay in second place, finishing fifth and second in today’s races. With the top three beginning to separate from the pack, the Canadian, Italian, and Danish sailors chasing the podium now trail by 13 to 15 points—setting the stage for an intense battle ahead.
Germany’s own Levian Büscher kept national hopes alive, sailing into the top ten despite the punishing conditions off Kiel-Schilksee.

With completing the qualification series today, the championships now head into the decisive final series, where the fleet will split into Gold and Silver fleets. Two more days of racing remain to determine who will be crowned 2025 ILCA 6 Men’s World Champion.
As the competition intensifies, sailors will need to summon not just tactical brilliance but exceptional resilience in the face of the Baltic’s ever-changing temperament.
The organizing authority is the Kieler Yacht Club.
