2027 ILCA U21 World Championships information

Following our announcement on 14 July, we wanted to share some additional detail for sailors and families weighing up an application for the 2027 ILCA Under-21 World Championships (10–17 January 2027, Sandringham Yacht Club, Australia).

Key dates

  • Applications opened: 14 July 2026
  • Close of applications for initial ranking and allocation of places: 12 September 2026
  • First round of entry offers: 19 September 2026
  • Late applications open: 20 September 2026 (subject to places remaining)
  • Entry closing date: 11 December 2026

As this is a restricted-entry, allocated championship, sailors applying by 12 September will be considered in the initial ranking and allocation round. A late application window then opens on 20 September for any places that remain.

Supported by the Victorian Government

The 2027 ILCA U21 World Championships are proudly supported by the Victorian Government through its Significant Sporting Event Program.

One trip, two World Sailing graded regattas

The U21 Worlds are preceded at the same venue by the 2027 Performance Sailcraft ILCA Oceania & Australian Open & Youth Championships (1–8 January 2027, Sandringham). Entries for this event open 1 September 2026. Sailors travelling to Australia have the option to compete in both events on a single trip.

Application and entry costs

A USD $50 application fee secures your place in the selection process for the U21 Worlds. The full entry fee is not due until later in 2026, giving families time to plan travel and accommodation.

Sandringham and Melbourne in January

January is mid-summer in Melbourne, with warm, sailing-friendly conditions and easy access to the city and to destinations such as the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island for those extending their stay.
