Day 2 of the 2025 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships wrapped up yesterday with high spirits and fierce competition on the water, setting the stage for an exciting final day of qualifying today.
The energy was palpable from the early morning as sailors arrived at the boat park, buzzing with anticipation. The day kicked off with a smooth coaches’ meeting led by the Race Committee, who laid out the plan for two races ahead of today’s final qualifying races.
At 11:00 AM, the launch flag signaled the start of the action, giving sailors ample time to tow out to the course ahead of the 1:00 PM first warning. A steady breeze of 8–10 knots, paired with light swell and 1–2-foot waves, greeted the fleets on the water. A brief 15-minute delay was called while the RC adjusted the course to match a shifting wind, ensuring fair and competitive racing.
Race 1 began at 1:20 PM and unfolded smoothly, with tight battles across all fleets and close mark roundings throughout. As the afternoon wore on, the wind built to 12–15 knots, and the swell increased to 3 feet, adding a layer of complexity that challenged sailors’ tactical skills.
The second race ran cleanly under increasingly stable conditions, with the breeze settling into a consistent range and direction. Racing concluded around 4:30 PM, and the sailors returned to shore where they were welcomed with well-earned pizza and camaraderie.
With finals set to begin tomorrow, all eyes are on today’s final races to see how the fleets will shape up heading into the championship rounds.

Girls’ Overall Championship
The top four positions remain unchanged among the Girls’ overall championship. The highlight of the day was the impressive performance of the leader, Blanca Ferrando Babe from Spain –Bronze medallist at the 2025 ILCA 4 Youth Europeans–, who won both races.

Meanwhile, in the Girls’ Under 16 championship, the newly crowned ILCA 4 Youth European champion, Turkish sailor Derin Bartan TUR, now leads the fleet with 13 points and holds eighth place overall.

Boys’ Overall Championship
The Boys’ competition is now led by Konstantinos Portosalte GRE –Silver medallist at the 2025 ILCA 4 Youth Europeans– who scored two bullets yesterday, edging ahead of fellow sailor Emmanouil Vomvylas GRE –Gold medallist at the same event– by just one point.
