Day 3 at the 2025 ILCA 6 Youth World Championships marked the final day of the Qualifying series, and sailors arrived early, fully aware it was their last opportunity to post strong results before the Gold/Silver fleet split.
The coaches’ meeting began at 10:30 AM as planned, but soon after, a thick fog rolled into the boat park and race venue, prompting the Race Committee to hoist the AP ashore at 11:00. While waiting for conditions to improve, sailors passed the time playing cards, listening to music, and enjoying the camaraderie onshore.
Shortly after 13:00, the AP flag came down as a light breeze began to fill. The launch was impressively swift, with the entire fleet off the beach within 20 minutes. Racing got underway around 13:45 in 8–10 knots of breeze and half-metre waves waves. With the Final series looming, sailors were extra cautious—no starting penalties were recorded in the first race.
Current played a significant role, catching out many competitors who overstood the windward mark or struggled with the tight layline from the pin end. Racing remained close across all fleets in the lighter-than-usual conditions.
By the second race, the breeze and waves had built, creating excellent surfing opportunities and rewarding strong hiking technique. All fleets successfully completed two races, keeping the event perfectly on schedule.
Sailors returned to shore between 17:00 and 18:00, depending on their fleet, and the day concluded with a lively midweek party—highlighted by the arrival of an iconic In-N-Out Burger truck, much to the delight of competitors and coaches alike.
With the Qualifying series now complete, anticipation is high for today’s first day of Final series racing, when the Gold and Silver fleets will face off.

Girls’ Championships leaders after Day 3
Dutch sailor Feline Van Ede NED –ILCA 4 Youth World Vice-Champion in 2024– continues to lead the Girls’ Championship with 9 points, closely followed by Hermione Ghicas GRE –the reigning 2025 ILCA 6 Youth European Champion– and Alina Shapovalova UKR –ILCA 6 Youth European Champion in 2024– with 12 and 13 points respectively. Rounding out the provisional top five are Rebecca Mantel ISR and Hieke Schraffordt NED, both demonstrating consistent performances as the competition intensifies.

The Girls’ Under 17 Championship is still led by Camille Vallotton SUI, who has climbed from 9th to 7th place overall with 25 points. Chloe Turner NZL remains the vice leader, currently in 15th place with 40 points, while the third U17 spot is held by Lena Adamska POL, who is 18th overall with 52 points. Maya Wolf CAN is in fourth place, just ahead of Marina Wardlaw USA in fifth, both tied on 79 points.

Boys’ Championships leaders after Day 3
Italians Lorenzo Ghirotti ITA and Alessandro Cirinei ITA –recently crowned 2025 ILCA 6 Men’s World Champion in Kiel– remain at the top of the Boys’ Championship leaderboard, with Alessandro now overtaking Lorenzo to lead the pack. Thanks to an impressive 1st and 3rd place finishes yesterday, Alessandro has extended his advantage, building a comfortable 20-point gap over his closest challengers, Lorenzo and Benedek Héder HUN. Meanwhile, Spanish sailors Tim Lubat ESP and Joan Fargas Cendra ESP have moved up the standings to secure spots in the provisional top five, adding to the excitement as the championship heads into its final stages.

The Boys’ Under 17 championship has a new leader, the ascendant Alexander Hartsink NED, climbing from fourth to first place U17 and eighth overall with 44 points. Erotokritos Komianos GRE is second, just 4 points behind. Overnight U17 leader Stefano Siebert Francavilla BRA has slipped from fifth to seventeenth overall, being now third Under 17 with 59 points. Jiri Tomez CZE and Claudio Crocco ITA complete the provisional U17 top five.
