Triple-Race Sunday Shakes Up ILCA 7 Masters Worlds Standings

2026 ILCA 7 Master Worlds Day 4

The fourth day of the 2026 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship in Athens saw three races completed on schedule as the fleet made up for the race lost earlier in the week due to thunderstorms.

Sailors enjoyed consistent conditions throughout the day, with a 7–10-knot south-easterly breeze from 180–200 degrees and choppy waves providing a demanding but fair test across all fleets. With no delays on the water, the race committee successfully completed all three scheduled races, bringing the championship to eight races completed.

The day’s standout performances came from Greek sailors Adonis Bougiouris and Mihalis Koulianos, who each claimed three race victories in their respective categories.

Masters leader Adonis Bougiouris was delighted with his performance: “I didn’t expect to end today with three race wins, because the weather is usually unstable in the morning and it’s difficult to predict what will happen in the Saronic Gulf. The wind we encountered suited me perfectly, and that allowed me not only to take three first places but, more importantly, to extend my lead over the sailor in second place. Now, the only thing I need to do is sail conservatively and avoid taking any risks so that I can secure first place overall. If I manage to do that, it will be my seventh gold medal.”

Apprentices sailor Mihalis Koulianos also enjoyed a perfect day on the water: “We managed to do three races and I am very happy with my performance. I won all the races which gives me confidence for the rest of the championship. Two more days to go and I hope to make it to first place.”

With eight races now completed, the championship enters its final stages with several categories still finely balanced. Two races are scheduled for Monday as the championship moves into its final stages in Athens.
