The second day of the 2026 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship in Athens delivered a changing mix of conditions, with sailors facing two very different races as the fleet completed four races in total.

The first race got underway on schedule in a light 5–8-knot south-westerly breeze from 220–240 degrees. Flat water and shifting conditions rewarded sailors who were able to quickly adapt to the changing wind patterns across the course.

For the second race, competitors waited for approximately one hour while the sea breeze developed. Once established, a 9–12-knot south-easterly breeze from 150–170 degrees provided a more consistent racecourse, although the accompanying chop added a further tactical and physical challenge.

Great Grand Masters sailor Nick Page of New Zealand relished the conditions, which reminded him of his home waters: “How lucky can I be. Wind conditions just like at home on Lake Pupuke in New Zealand, but sun and warmth to go with it. For me it was all about getting in phase with the shifts and sailing the breeze, not the fleet and for a change it worked. The courses were fantastic, the pasta and beer were great and getting a couple of good results was certainly a bonus. Early days but what a great contest already.”

With four races now completed, the championship is beginning to take shape, although the close scores across several categories suggest the battle for podium positions is far from settled. Two more races are scheduled for Friday before the championship pauses for its reserve/rest day on Saturday.
